REVIEWS & COMMENTS

> "The premier performance was a hit among the
        audience members, as they applauded
        throughout.
& when the closing curtain came down,
they gave the players a rousing curtain call.

        ... standing applause
that lasted several minutes.
... probably opened a few eyes in its witticisms
        & reflective humor."

        - Norm Martin - Curry County Reporter - Gold Beach, OR

> "The potential in this show is way out there.
I love the message.   And it is sooooo timely."

        - Marilyn Derig - school counselor - Anacortes, WA

> "The kids in your show will be old people
        & still remember that play.
 In Our Hands Now!
will stay with them the rest of their lives."

- Bill Stuart - Principal Gold Beach High School
one year after the premiere - Gold Beach,
OR

> "I am so proud of your success with your musical.
It REALLY is a good musical.   Keep it alive.
I am inspired by your dream.

I have no doubt that this script & score
will be purchased by many other high schools.
You have a hit on your hands."

        - Corby Ward - English teacher / formerly in drama
                - Beaverton,
OR

> "It is a testament to the quality of the script that the
premiere could come off so well in such a small
school with the many challenges to a dramatic
endeavor.   The musical is so strong,
an incomplete cast & lack of acting experience,
in some cases, didn't even matter.

The script seems sympathetic to kid actors.
The characters being real, believable high
schoolers breeds a tolerance in the audience for
        real kids acting the parts.

There is a reverberation as the play comes back
        on itself (
in the end, the line between the audience
& the actors is intentionally crossed) that has its
        own charm."

        - Alan Lee - English teacher - Gold Beach, OR

> "At the premiere, because I expected music that
high schoolers would like, I was bracing myself
        for something abrasive.
It was obvious that the kids loved the music,
those performing as well as in the audience.

It surprised & delighted me that the music was
easy on my ears too.   Somehow the songs
have an appeal to older & younger alike.

Regarding the way that the script addresses
& reflects real high school issues today,
        you nailed it!"

        - Connie Roach - middle school teacher - Camas, WA

> "Although I had some exposure to the script over
the past years, it was entirely different to
observe it come alive on stage
-- not only through the portrayal of characters,
but through the joyous laughter & applause of
        the audience ...

We enjoyed every minute, & we were immensely
        proud of your accomplishment!"

        - Sarah LaBarbera - Bailey, CO
(a member of a high school Honors English class
which the playwright consulted before beginning
the first draft of the script, 1989)
